Self Care

What is Self Care?

Self Care is defined as anything that helps you feel more like yourself! It is such a common term and many people have different ideas of what it means. It is important to try to listen to your body and to know when you need to rest and recharge. What is recharging for one person may not be for another, so there really is no wrong way to go about taking care of yourself.

Our society can value people being busy and having many accomplishments. It is like you earn a badge of honor to go-go-go. The issue with this is that it is simply not sustainable long term. This can lead to  mental, emotional, and physical problems- including burnout! It also takes away from the ability to be present and mindful and simply enjoy the moments in life.

Anyone who spends time on social media or watching the news can see a false sense of reality in regards to what people should be doing, consuming, and accomplishing. This can lead to comparing yourself to others as well as bad feelings about where you are on your own personal journey in life.

There is also false messaging that Self Care is selfish. This is far from the truth. If a person does not take care of themselves, they will not be able to take care of their day to day responsibilities and certainly will not be able to take care of their own families.

Like mentioned, Self Care for one person may be different for another. Remember, anything that helps you to feel like your best version of YOU is self care. You are worth it to take some time for yourself to enjoy the moments and to rest and recharge.

I wanted to share some simple ways to incorporate a small glimpse of Self Care throughout your day-

  • Take 5 minutes to do some deep breathing
  • Walk around your workplace for a few minutes
  • Listen to a meditation/ podcast/ music that you like
  • Step into the sunshine
  • Get a drink of water
  • Make sure you take breaks throughout the day
  • Put your phone away for the evening
  • Talk to a friend
  • Snuggle with a pet
  • Play a game with a family member
  • Sit in silence
  • Journal
  • Burn a candle
  • Enjoy a sweet treat

Comment below and let me know what you like to do for a moment of Self Care or something you may like to try from the list above!

Make it an intention to have a few moments for your self daily - or longer- and I assure you , you will notice how great you feel putting your needs first !

Blessings, Jen
