Finding Balance

Balance in my thoughts, means being able to feel like you are meeting your needs across different areas- not doing too much in one area where other areas/ needs are getting neglected. This can be so tough, and the best thing to do is check in with yourself! Having things unbalanced for too long is not sustainable.  It is important to recognize that everyone is unique – we all have different temperaments / different needs and so this can impact balance and what that looks like.

Self care is important to feel balanced. If you are not taking care of basic needs for yourself then you will be more vulnerable to lack of balance and eventually burnout. I think it is a good practice to evaluate energy levels and commitments and make sure you are listening to your body. Life is meant to be joyful and for you to have precious moments, not to feel overwhelmed all of the time.

Where does routine fall into the concept of balance? Some people thrive off of structure and routine and some do not. I think it is healthy to have structure. routine in your life, but also a sense of adaptability and flexibility. Things do not always go as planned so the adaptability and flexibility is needed in order to thrive in different settings, and to have balance.

Figuring this out for yourself takes time and practice. I like to tell my clients that there can be a lot of trial and error in the day to day and that is OK. Instead of getting to the brink of burnout, know that it is OK and NECESSARY to take breaks and listen to your body.

How can you find  a better balance?

  • Take a break from commitments
  • Take a break from work
  • Say NO
  • Evaluate your to do list
  • Set boundaries
  • Ask for help
  • Evaluate your expectations you have for yourself / others/ situations
  • Cope with stress
  • Take care of your physical needs/ basic needs – like nutrition and exercise
  • Make time for things you enjoy – schedule these out so you have things to look forward to
  • Journal and reflect
  • Practice gratitude
  • Disconnect from electronics/ screen time
  • Do something calming in your routine like meditation
  • Do not skip out on SLEEP!
  • Maintain connections with a support system – of positive influences!
  • Spend rime alone

Take some time to see what you can do to feel more balanced! I like to have a non negotiable list for my day to day , disconnect from media/ screen time, check in with myself, and really I try to have self awareness around where my time and energy are flowing to! Enjoy checking in with yourself to feel a bit more balanced and so you can recharge when you need to1

Be Beyond Well, Jen
